You Are Being Harassed By Teenagers

Oh boy, this situation sucks. If you, your home, your kids, your cars, or whatever are being harassed, vandalized or otherwise hassled by punk kids that think they are being tough or cool and trying to run your 'hood, well, this is an issue.

If the kids are under 18 years old, the ol' "backwoods justice" that my dad talked about when I was a kid doesn't really apply, you can get yourself in a whole heap of trouble. Kids in today's society know they are not held accountable for anything. Everybody makes every excuse in the book for the kid not to be held accountable. He only has one parent, they come from a rough neighborhood, whatever, the list is endless. Kids today are emboldened by the fact that they know they just have to tell somebody that their teacher molested them, or work adults into a tizzy and there is little an adult can do legally. If you do anything drastic, you can wind up in trouble yourself.

If, however these kids commit a chargable crime, the tables turn, you then have recourse to have them criminally charged. Typically, if it's a first offense they will not get much of a punishment, but the process may freak them out enough for them to stop. If it does not, you can bet they will do it again. If they are charged again, the penalty will be stiffer, and therefore hopefully make more of an impact.

Some areas have local laws that can hold the parents accountable for the actions of the children, if your area has these type of laws, you can talk to the police about that...but before you do, just like with any case, you need proof...documentation of events, video recordings, pictures and the like to prove your case, so start doing it now.

Their reaction to a first and possibly second charge will often display if this person is going to grow up to be a life-long criminal, or just a teen acting out that stands a chance of growing up and becoming a productive member of society.
